Veronica Scherbak, MS, Ph.D. (2024)
My journey into the field of psychology began in my senior year of high school when a psychology elective ignited a deep fascination with human behavior. From that moment, I was captivated by the nuances of why we think and act the way we do, and how this understanding can enhance our relationships and self-awareness.
As a first-generation child born in the United States to immigrant parents from a collectivist culture, I’ve navigated a variety of cultural experiences throughout my life. In my upbringing, mental health was not prioritized, and therapy was often not seen as an option. This background has profoundly shaped my appreciation for mental health and fueled my commitment to making it accessible and meaningful for others. I understand firsthand the challenges of bridging cultural gaps and the importance of creating a space where mental health is valued and addressed.
Pursuing a degree in psychology at the University of Colorado Denver solidified my passion for this field. Although I was initially uncertain about my career path, I found myself particularly drawn to studies focusing on interpersonal processes and relationships. This interest guided me to further my education with a doctorate in counseling psychology from Colorado State University. There, I embraced opportunities in research, practice, and assessment, which led to significant personal and professional growth. My experiences ranged from university counseling centers to community mental health and private practice, including a valuable internship at the University of Northern Colorado Counseling Center.
Currently, I am thrilled to be a member on the Lone Wolf Psychological Services team, where I am specializing in relational therapy. This area has become a focal point of my practice, and I genuinely believe that being a therapist is my calling. My approach to therapy is very person-centered – I value connection, and strive to create a warm, empathetic space for my clients where they can feel safe and comfortable. My goal is to help clients find fulfillment and meaning in their relationships and lives. I am dedicated to guiding you through exploring, processing, and accepting your thoughts and emotions, which can lead to reduced suffering and a clearer focus on what truly matters to you. By aligning your actions with your core values, we can work together towards a life that feels both authentic and fulfilling.
Professionally, I am particularly interested in online dating and its role in contemporary relationships. Whether you are a couple who met online or an individual trying to find someone in this era of modern dating, I have personal and professional experience navigating the nuances that accompany this modem of meeting others. Having met my own partner online, I know firsthand that it can be a successful and meaningful way to connect with others. This personal experience has deepened my professional interest in helping clients navigate the complexities of online dating, offering guidance and support to make the process more manageable and fulfilling.
Outside of work, I enjoy teaching and taking dance lessons, particularly in contemporary and jazz styles. I also love reading, playing video games, listening to music, working on various art projects, and spending time with family and friends.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you. Please feel free to book a 15-minute consultation below to start our journey together.
